This was a little Rat Red that Nathan - my 7 year old son - caught. He was as excited by this as many are about the Bull Reds we catch from time to time.

October 27th - David and Johnathan

Image
This was one of the larger ones on the day. Johnathan caught this 42" - Almost pulled him in - but with patience and perserverance (and alot of line and good drag) he landed him
Image
Even though most of my day was filled with making sure David and Johnathan had all they needed, I was able to catch a couple of Red's. This was one of the three I landed.

Here was another one David caught.
Image
On three different occasions, Johnathan and David had double hook ups!
Image
This was one of the six that Johnathan caught. I think the Red was almost as big as him! He really had to fight hard to get them in! By the way - he did really outfish his dad!

Took my brother, David Redd and his son, Johnathan for their first Bull Red Run on October 27th, 2004. Final count was David - 6 nice Reds; Johnathan 6 nice Reds and a 4 ft. Shark. All Reds were between 38'' and 42" long. All were released to fight another day. This was one David caught.

October 25th - Fishing Trip

Image
My day was jinxed from the start. I hooked up with 5 Reds before I boated this one. The first one pulled out after his first run. The second and third Reds broke the line - it was then I noticed I had a crack in the top eye of the rod I was fishing with - it frayed my line terribly. That rod was put away for the day. The fourth Red I hooked up with ripped drag like crazy - he brushed up against the bouy pole - and SNAP! Finally, I hooked this 41" Red and released him to fight another day. I did catch a big big Stingray - tried to take a pic - but didn't turn out well. Also - caught two hermit crabs. (See Lynn - told you I would own up to it!)

Dewey caught a nice Red. On the day he caught 2 nice ones.

Lynn Benefield, Dewey Walls and I took a Red Fishing Trip Monday, October 25th. Finally - after 3 or 4 Trips - Lynn caught a Big Red. Amazing! He is a Flounder Pounder by nature - and called Red's "Bay Carp" - but he had a great time!

October 21st - Fishing Trip

Image
This was the last Red for the day - She was in the 39" range. All in all a good day fishing - 13 or 14 Reds - 1 Tarpon (2 jumps and gone) - several large gaftop - and one fish still running strong. All landed fish were returned to fight another day.
Image
This was the largest Red of the day - She was about 44-45" long - Notice how fat she was. I assume it was a Female - she did not "drum" as the males usually do.
Image
This was one of the smaller ones we caught. He was 34" long.

Here is anothe one Dewey caught that day.

Dewey caught this beautiful Red. Each side had 7 black marks him. It was really unusual.

Here was Dewey and one of the Reds he caught. I think he had a hug on this one - it was pretty choppy at the end of the Jetties.
Image
The first Bull Red I hooked slipped off right at the boat. This was the second of seven or eight for the day. I lost two with line breaks - and was almost spooled by something before it broke off - best guess was a Jack Carvell.

Here is the first Bull Red Dewey caught on our October 21st fishing trip. During the day, Dewey caught 6 (I think) - but the highlight of the day was when he hooked about a 4 ft Tarpon. Two nice jumps - and it broke off - but man what a sight!

I caught two Reds on Monday, October 11th. This was the largest - not quite 40". The smalled one was about 34" and had teeth marks on him - starting mid body to his tail. The only thing we could figure was that at some point he had been attached either by a Shark or a dolphin.

Here is the 40" Red that Dr. Barksdale caught. It was relaesed to fight another day.

Here is Dr. Barksdale fighting the 40" Red he caught. He was using the Shiman 4000fa Reel with 12 lbs test ling and a Shimano Stimula Rod.

Monday, October 11th - Dr. Jim Barksdale - a lifelong friend of mine - caught two nice reds. One was 36" and the other was 40". Both were caught on live croaker and were released to fight another day.
