DaParson's Fishing Adventures

It was a beautiful day at the Jetty - with a nice North wind blowing early in the morning. We fished an incoming tide early - then outgoing later in the mid-morning. The water was not nearly as pretty as previous trips - but still very very fishable. Water temp was 89.1. Here was the beautiful sunrise at the end of the Galveston's North Jetty. Dewey caught the first fish of the day. A nice Jack Crevalle - one of two on the day. 

Here was Dewey's first Red of the day. On the day, I think he caught 2 or 3. All Reds were between 39 and 45 inches long. 

This is the first Bull that Dale caught on the day.  

Here was a nice Jack Crevalle that Dale caught. They put up a great fight ... and that is about all they are good for. (grin) 

Here was a double that Dale and I had ... I think we had 2 or 3 doubles on the day. In the boat with all the lines out - it can be like a Chinese Fire Drill at times! 

Great Red Dale .... now about that hat ..... (laughing) 

This was the largest Bull Red of the day. It pains me to say this ... but Dewey caught the largest Red of the day and Dale caught the most. Man .... that hurt! (grin) 

Uh ..... some pictures need no explanation. Can you say .... SHARK?

This was Dewey's last Red of the day. Final count was 14 Bull Reds - 2 Jack Crevalle.  

Dewey, Dale Girod and his son Landon and I went out to the Jetties today. The water was very very clear at the end of the Jetty. Water temp was 89.3 degrees - the tide early was slack - but an outgoing tide picked up about 10:30. We caught several Spanish Macs, some big ladyfish, several shark (1 monster 6 1/2 to 7 foot blacktip) and 3 Bull Reds all 42 to 45 inches long. This was the first Bull Red of the day.

Today, I caught the largest shark that Dewey or I have hooked out at the Jetties. Remember, we use medium heavy rods with 15lb test line. The drag started screaming and there was no way I could do much but hang on and hope he stopped. About 45 minutes later - I had a 6 1/2 to 7 ft Black Tip shark next to the boat. He was huge - I was absolutey bushed. They took this picture of me after I fought the fish. Here is a link to the video of the fish . Here is a picture of the Black Tip I caught. We estimated it to be between 6 and 7 foot long. It put up a fantastic fight.

Here is the second Bull Red I caught. He was about 42" long. At one point, all three lines were screaming! While I was bringing this Bull Red in - either a Shark or another Bull Red was tailing him. The water was clear enough to see 2 distinct fish - but it was far enough out that I couldn't make out the shape. 

Here is a 43" Bull Red the Dale caught. Both he and I were hooked up at the same time. Dewey also was hooked up (a triple) but his line crossed mine and his line snapped. He said I did it on purpose ... but I really didn't. I felt really badly about it for well over 30 seconds .... (grin) 

Most of the time we don't venture much past the end of Galveston's North or South Jetty - but today was a special day. It was Dewey - my fishing bud's - 75th Birthday. So I enlisted the help of Captain Cody for something out of the ordinary. We went offshore about 27 miles out and had a blast. We brought home 8 nice snapper, 5 spanish mackerel, and 1 nice king.
